Well......as always with a build of an old rig, theres some quirks and problems to deal with:
Drove it 40 miles since legally allowed on the road. Ran great, but my overdrive and lockup switches weren't doing their job. I figured I'd worry about them later, but I came home and the next day walking up to it to take another drive, I saw this:
I said, "well that sucks." I tore everything apart and drained the new diff fluid:
Apparently when I put new seals and brakes on the rear the first time, I didn't realize or think where the seal would sit. So I threw it all together and come to find out, this was right where the seal sits (rusted pitted part):
Of course the brake shoes were no longer a-ok. so I had to put new ones on with new springs while I was at it. I found out the original rear parking brake cables didn't work, so I also got all (3) new cables and installed those, plus new seals:
I used a speedi sleeve to (hopefully) fix the problem with the seals not sealing because of the rust. I drove it 15 miles tonight with no leaks but time will tell. I'll have to try to find the part number for them. They measure 2.783 inches and are stainless steel:
While I was waiting on parts to fix it for the last week, I worked on a few other things.
I realized I wanted a tach so I wasn't guessing what rpm I was at all the time (since I can spin her to about 3800 rpm), so I moved the tranny temp gauge down near the tranny fan switch, and put the tach on the column.
Tach wiring:
Also put all new JL Audio speakers in it and a sub along with ipod hookup and new pinoeer head unit:
Plus, I went along with my tradional "big shifter" style and made a new 4x4 shifter knob out of copper:
Hollowed it out because it was so heavy:
Lastly...my battery had dies the other night before all this happened, so I got a brand new battery and a 300 amp alternator for it. Sits at 12-13 volts at idle:
