1967 RS Duramax Camaro

Waiting on parts to show up from Suncoast, and a few things from PPE, and a y bridge from Pro Fab. Lots to do, and very little time. I hate to say it, but it doesn't look like it will be running in time for the NHRDA event in Redding on the 18th. But I will keep plugging along. I will be driving it sooner than later.

Late to the party but can't wait to see if finished, keep up the good work.

Im weird when it comes to red but damn that looks good! The engine looks killer also!

Very sweet build!!!!! If you need any help with the engine wiring, and stand alone harnesses give me a shout. I finally fired my 65 el camino with LBZ tonight. We learned a lot of what not to do and should be able to save you some time if needed.

Looking great!!! The red is a good choice and looks awesome!!!

Wow! Can't wait to see it together!

Great choice on painting the body now! It looks awesome!

:thankyou2: I was originally going to get the motor and tranny installed and get it running before paint, but I'm waiting on the valve body and converter from suncoast, so that had to wait. I also found 2 stress cracks in the upper oil pan on the Duramax, due to what I think was improper cast aluminum welding execution, so I called up my buddy Aaron who is a fantastic welder and he fixed it for me, since I have no aluminum or tig welding experience. I'll get a couple pics and post them later.

Thanks Rob, PPE modified the engine harness into a stand alone harness already, but I'm still learning as I go, so I appreciate any help I can get. I'm having a friend who is excellent with wiring help me get it all tied together into the car harness, so I'm hopeful that we can get it done. I may have some questions for you though if we get hung up on something.

I love '65 El Camino's and Chevelle's btw, I'd like to see some pics of it.

Here's a couple, I didn't want to crowd your great thread but the color choice should allow some forgiveness...

Awesome build, and awesome fab skills, but i gotta ask, what is the king pin looking piece on the bottom of the differential?

That is the jacking point. It also has a drain plug in the center of it.

Painted some more parts tonight, forgot to take finished pictures. Planning on getting more done this weekend...

Ive been meaning to ask you, what are you doing for gauges? Did you figure out some way to adapt the old mechanical Camaro set to the engine, or are you adapting the Silverado cluster into the car?

I am still undecided on this. I don't have the gauge cluster from the truck the motor came out of, and for my immediate uses it wouldn't work. I got this motor with a PPE Hot +2 Race programmer that is specifically made for motor swaps and doesn't allow factory gauges to work. I not going to use this programmer forever, but since I'm in a time and money crunch, I'm going to use it and save up to upgrade to efi live.

That being said, the original tach can work if I buy this: http://www.pacificp.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=136_140&products_id=389

But, the speedometer won't work because it's cable driven, and the 47rh's speedometer output is electronic. I read somewhere that the 4bt '69 camaro has a 47rh with a different tail shaft housing (don't quote me on that, I could be wrong) with the cable output so the speedometer can be hooked up. I have not looked further into this.

I can retrofit autometer gauges into the original cluster, or go with something like this: http://www.pacificp.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=136_140&products_id=243

That's expensive though.

To sum things up, I can't make up my mind. Open to suggestions.

Pull your speed sensor out of the tailshaft. If you are using a 47rh. It's gear driven.. Looks a lot like Speedo gears for a518 mechanical Speedometer
