Ahale's 94 Build thread

I'd sure like to find a solution that would not kill this OD clutch gear

The only sure fire way not to avoid failures in the NV4500, only abuse the power in 4th gear, period.

so, keeping the abuse to 4th, is that an accurate place to dyno the truck from?

or not....?

Yes fourth is direct and the strongest gear. Dave Dunbar told me years ago to always dyno in direct.

Dodge Gear ratios:
1 2 3 4 5 R
5.61 3.04 1.67 1.00 0.73 5.61 (to 1997) 5.04 (1997 on)

did a bit of highway racing last night, a few 45-120 pulls against my buddies 06 Cr

truck spools like garbage when you romp on it, laying into it slow is the only way to get it to spool reasonably. I need to play around with afc spring to see if I can tune it to the point that it will ride the "line" itself. apprently its fueling a dark haze all the way through a wot pull, good, but it still feels like its nosing off a tad.

It would help if i had some gauges, i think i'll throw a half assed boost gauge on today

Going to give it a tad more timing today, I'm at 20 Right now, thinking 22, or 23

it was also quite interesting when my throttle stuck open at about 110mph, Either the gov arm fell under the afc foot, or my throttle linkage bound up somehow, revs took off on their own, finally fixed itself as i tried to limp off the highway. I'll pull the afc apart today and see if i can see any evidence of the rack sticking open.

I do miss the insta-spool of my 62, this 68 is nice, but its clearly big.

All that and no gauges???!!! Mother Efffff...

W gears are you running? My truck would probably have to turn 7k rpm to hit 120 mph.

And what are the specs on the 468?

3.55 gears, 235/85 tires 72mph is about 2000rpm on the highway. at 120 the tach had been well past 3500 rpm for a while, still pulling HARD

kind of made it a personal mission to get as far as i could without guages.

its a FMW 67.7/83/.9

Ive been playing around with some tuning, turns out the large gov spring out of a 175 hp ppump works well as an afc spring, total length is about 1/4 inch longer than a 160pump afc spring, and with the starwheel almost bottomed, I can get full rack at about 35 psi, starwheel up can advance it to full rack at about 50 psi (testing on shop air). looks like my rack did stick open, the bottom of the afc foot had a bit of a nick on it.

either way this turbo will not come up on plane at all untill about 1900rpm, starts to sing at about 2200

guages are being ordered this week, need to find a not so typical way of mouthing them the burn marks on the head near the exhaust flange make me thing egt's are HOT

hard to tell from the pics, but there is some serious scoring, looks like the center plate wasnt releasing well, inner buttons facing the centerplate are not that worn, flywheel and PP side are bad.

the full 5speed setup is forsale/trade in the swap meet section, looking to go back to a auto.

the same can be said for a standard in certain applications, but I'm over it
