Are the 6.4 really that bad?

after Zippies video's the only thing left to do is pass out the valium and crying towels

Even the mountain bike will fail eventually.
LOL. Fine VMAX, I am sitting my ass down right where I am and never moving (my legs would eventually fail...but I suppose then I could drag myself...I digress). Happy now?LOL:D.

Sorry for resurrecting this, but figured Id throw in my 2¢. We've used a 6.4 every day to pull a 36' gooseneck loaded with 18 rolls of peanut hay that can weigh over 2000 lbs per bale. We pull it thru peanut fields, down country back roads, stop and go traffic in small towns, etc... never had an issue. Truck has a DPF and EGR delete, Spartan (on low tunes), and AFE intake. Fuel mileage is good, and power is pretty respectable. On the Duramax note, I've put in a water pump in less than 2 hrs and had an injection pump on in less than 6hrs on mine. They aren't that bad to work on.... I do hate mine tho and wish I never got it. As soon as it hit 170,000 miles it started falling to pieces.

My 6.4 just turned 106k, its a work truck and gets treated accordingly. Its had the radiator recall done and thats it (have the Oasis to prove it). This truck has been more reliable than my 2001 7.3 (blown injector seal caused it to dump fuel and hydro lock the motor), and my 1994 Ram 5.9 (Pump/Relay plunger failed, KDP came loose and cracked the timing case, power steering pump ****, the bed, dont even get me started on the rest of the truck).

The point of this post is that one persons experience with two of the most highly regarded diesel engine has been the complete opposite of most. I think I either of those engines came stock making what the 6.4 makes in power there'd be a lot more failures.

Had mine for 2 months now and after deleteing it and getting a spartan I'm in love! My last truck was a 6.0 and is sitting in the weeds as I type!

There are a lot of things I don't like about the 6.4, but they are things present to a degree on other trucks as well; like emissions junk.

I think some of the biggest issues with 6.0's and now 6.4's is the coolant. I don't know why, but it seems like the world forgot that you need to do more than fill with fuel and change oil.

IMHO the 6.0 can be made into a damn fine engine.
The 6.4 is a really tough SOB, with a road princess fuel system.

The 6.4 with spartan is a complete animal.

I love the ability to write my own tunes with H&S :D

I did not know that, that is something I would love to try, now I am a little depressed, had I known that, I wouldn't have wasted money on the spartan.

What exactly does it let you control? Does it actually open the ECM right up, or just the fueling tables and airflow and such? :charger:

I've heard that people drink pepsi... I always assumed they lived in hell :p

Pepsi is way more popular in our town, but the town over coke outsells pepsi big time.

I'm one of those people where pepsi=coke, 7up=sprite.

I can't taste a difference. Especially when mixed with vodka haha.
