Are the 6.4 really that bad?

Well my truck sits 90 percent of the time, I put 5k miles on my truck a year. I eventually want to delete that crap and get a tuner but I don't want to "have to" to save from problems down the road. I'm just confused and one guy says no and the other says yes I will have problems. I have noticed that since my truck sits alot it regens alot more often.

"you can want all you want"

or

"want in one hand and **** in the other and see which fills up faster"

regens are horrible for these engines... high EGT's, high EOT's, dilluted oil, etc. I refuse to subject my trucks to that kind of abuse

If ford is so good, why is it every time I see a broken truck on the interstate it is a ford. I have seen one dodge. Must just be my luck or the ratio off dodge to ford trucks.
My son works at Dodge Toyota dealership all Ford diesels go to the auction and 5.4 gas engines.
Never saw a Dodge with the cab off LOL.
I really think buying a Ford is like buying a Harley Davidson .....hype.
Just my 2 cents.

Everything breaks down, I toasted a cummins motor at 60k miles in my 05. So don't rant on about cummins and blah blah blah until you've owned both. I don't like the regens either but I don't want to void my warranty either.

Last i checked ford is the #1 seller and for a reason.

Prob seen fords along te road because there are more superdutys on the road than any other truck.

Just my 2 cents

From my smart car.

I agree nothing is perfect and I understand your desire to keep your warranty.

I'm not going to say the 6.4 is the end all.be all but I have had my hands.on them.enough to know they are good engines

zippywildfire, why are you posting no one cares about your biased oponion. Go preach how ford sucks on cummins forum. I've seen first hand numerous motor failures on cummins with the injectors going out. I guess you one of those people that believes everything you see on youtube I guess.

Sorry guys just what I have seen. I am not brand loyal to anything. But I am careful on what I buy. Right now I have 2 Dodges 1 commonrail 1 p pump 1 VW tdi and 1 gm. Just seems to me Ford could sell a turd and people would buy it.
How much does it cost to have the cab pulled?

I haven't had to have mine pulled, but my guy charges 2-4hrs round trip depending on how stubborn the front bolts are...

once the cab off, it's far easier to work on... everything is easily accessible, so the labor hrs. on a lot of jobs even out vs. a GM or Dodge diesel

I'm careful on what I buy also. I've had 7 12v's and 8 CR's. I've never had a single Dodge CR fuel system issue, yet countless people on the various forums do... Does that mean CR's are junk? no... The trucks they come in are, but the engines are pretty decent!

Why be sorry for me? You're the one going through life ignorant. If anything, I feel sorry for you...

Duramax can have allot of labor tied up in repairs just like anything else. What's an injection pump job pay? How about water pumps? Just asking but i'm sure they aren't 2 hour jobs either....

Just saying pick your poisson. I like my trucks and would never own a duramax or a Cummings. I have mad respect for what they are capable of but not my comfort zone.

So what I learned from this thread is that idiots are afraid of every truck/engine under the sun, because said idiots easily fuk up their trucks/engines and or allow them to fall into disrepair.

Inversely, most Ford, Dodge, and GM diesel trucks/engines are pretty easy to keep running properly with some common sense, a bit of specialized knowledge, and a little preventative maintenance.

If I didn't drive/own any vehicle that has the potential for failures/issues I'd be pedaling my ass around everywhere on my mountain bikeLOL.

*I'm not looking for a stupid internet argument or to bicker about whether Ford, Dodge, or GM is the cooliest. So don't both.

Even the mountain bike will fail eventually.

Forest mo info on " ur guy "

Lock it down lol.
Yes your correct

bickering about which of the big three are more/less reliable is silly anymore...

unless you've got a 12v with a manual transmission, they're all junk these days! LOL

how was it treated before he got it and deleted it?

grocery getter that was idled all day and oil changed at 10k?

did he check the engine hours on it?

buddy of mine bought a "junk" 08 6.7 brand new... did the DPF delete at 2500 miles w/ sims, then edge, then h&S. He sold it with just shy of 200k. He had to put two water pumps on the truck...

just dealt with a guy the other day with an '09 6.7. turbo cleaned, turbo replaced, dpf replaced under warranty, and now a locked up turbo and clogged dpf just out of warranty. Dodge wants ~$4500 to get him back on the road. those 6.7's must be JUNK!

You got that RIGHT..... there now having the same coaking issues that he 6.0 turbos did.... but the holset turbos you cant split apart and clean you have to drill and tap into the exhaust housing. and inject this cleaning stuff in it while its running 95% of the time it doesnt work and you end up replacing the turbo..

If anyone wants to see junk, check into the ole 5.7!!! Come on people lets get some common sense.... This is Comp D!!!! Not cummins, duramax, powerstroke forum

IT depends on if the pump was recalled some of the pumps are squared off in the back and make it a real pain in the ass to get out.. oh for get water pumps on d maxes... i did one last week book time was like 8hrs............. thats about the same amount of time that a 6.0 hpop pays.

as far as whats better....... there all junk... from the 7.3 to the 5.9 to the 6.5 they all have issues.. it just depends on what kind of issues you want to deal with more. motor issues .. ford.. a/c and eletrical wiring problems dodge and chevy.. trannys dodge. expensive fuel system chevy.. chevys dont break often when they do break out the wallet.. doing all 8 inj's in a lb7 with proper hoses, and inj sleeves if needed is about as much as doing a stud kit on a 6.0 with both coolers.

long story short pick the lesser of the 3 evils..... with the most cab space. :hehe:
