Cam install tips

I got some from Zach at Hamilton when I ordered the cam, he can hook you up with it. But Ive also used some from O'riellys Auto Parts. Best I remember the O'reillys was around 8 a bottle, and called for 2 bottles.

Cool, I'll probably grab it from Oreilly's then. I would like to buy from zach but I can't see him selling it cheaper with shipping.

Can you re-use the crank seal? If I remember right it's made of plastic or something like that right? Or does it deform when you pull the cover off?

most cam makers recomend changing the lifters to 24v or common rail lifters when you change the cam, get a piece of fishing string and a cork that fits in the lifters and its easy, takes about 15 mins

I did. I bought a new one, ruined it trying to install it.

Got pissed off, put the old one in a different spot. No leaks.

All I have to say, is PHUCK THE LIFT PUMP.

EDIT: Also, to line the cam gear back up to the crank gear, the teeth with zero's stamped into them will mate up right? I'm not worried about the pump gear, I'm gonna reset to stock and go from there.

The single 0 on the crank lines up between the two 0's on the cam gear.

Awesome. Thanks Tate.

I also passed out before my friends wife did, so we didn't get to sneak the cam gear into the oven. We're gonna try to press it on.

Also, I pulled the motor up a lot to get the oil pan off. Had to completely remove one of the mount bolts so that it would clear the lip of the mount. Pan came off, and it was still nice and shiny with no noticeable wear or anything inside (Not that there usually is, but I was happy).

Oil came out looking almost like new, so did the coolant.

Also, for future swappers, just go ahead and take the hood and cowl off, along with the wiper assembly. Makes life a lot easier, and saves tons of time.

Don't forget to pull the lift pump out a little. It's a tricky bastard if you dont.

Get a little toaster oven. Thats what I used on mine. I forget how hot I had it, but it was cranked up pretty good. Left it in for 25-30 min, and it dropped right on.

Lol. It pressed on with no problem.

BUT: phuckin dowel splintered into an oil passage between the #5 and #6 pushrods. I can't get it out, but its small enough to not block the oil flow, and big enoght to be caught in the screen on the oil pickup. Any ideas?

Also, what should the rocker bolts be tightened too?

If you're desperate to get it out, pulling the tappet cover will give you all the access you need, if you haven't pulled it already. I had mine off when I changed the tappets, made it a bit easier, albeit more work in the end.
