Can we talk about triples?

So what about two S465's (w/ 1.0 and w/1.1 exh housings) feeding another S465 (w/ 0.9 housing and an ext. gate)?

Light around 2200-2300 rpm and flow enough air for 1500 hp?

I totally agree, wastegate the top charger and its all gravy.

All you guys saying to use a S475 as the top charger, how do you plan to spool that?? You complain about how hard it is to spool a silver bullet!

A s475sx is available with a number of A/R housings. A 0.90 A/R is plenty to get mine lit with a good torque converter.

Dragging this back to life...in cleaning out the shop over the weekend I discovered I have 2 usable hx35w's and 1 good 35/40 hybrid.

My thinking is although it may not be worth the fab time, it would save me a bunch of money and from what I've read should flow plenty of air for the 600-700hp I'm looking for.

I'm thinking a really cool running 600hp on the street playing and towing would be possible using the 3 hx's...or am I out in left field?

The secondary charger would be the 35/40 (60mm super wheel) with the 12cm housing (disabled) and an external gate on the manifold, then feed into 2 stock 35w's (56mm wheels) with _______ cm housings...

Any tips or ideas?

A pair of HY35's with 9cm housings and that hybrid would work, be a good DD low RPM set. Those HX's with the 12cm housings would be more toward a performance set.

My opinion anyway.

My other question is since the talk is mostly using Holsets and Holset gives the turbine housing size as an are only, not an area/radius ratio, can a guy add the two turbine housing areas straight up or is there a formula for that too?

I'm sure that 2 9cm housings will outflow a single 18cm housing, but since it's area being referenced I figured I'd ask anyways...

Another thing would be with 2 internally gated housings and essentially twice the wastegate area as well, a person could probably get away with tighter primary housings since more drive pressure could be gated off...

Anybody know off-hand if the hx and hy use the same 60mm exd. turbine wheel? (if turbine housings could just be swapped out)

Edit: scratch that, just remember the housing mounts to the bearing housing differently

I would assume that adding them up would suffice. Hopefully someone can chime in with some more info on this.

My current plan is to use 2 HE431VeTi's and a single HE551, those will get me around the housing sizing and the external gates.

Side not, anyone know about the HE531 ?

i was looking at using two hx 35's over a s400 but it turns out i was way off in the sizing. two hy's and a 35/40 will be do-able price wise. since the hy's are really common to come by.

how big of a 400 were you looking at using?

Comparing air flow to twin set-ups, the 2 35's should flow like a 480 or there abouts, so assumption would be to run a 362/462 secondary right?

Looking at my original idea again I see that the 35/40 secondary will probably limit me to the 500-550hp range heat wise, so that's why the hy's make more sense and should be better matched to the secondary right?

If I ever get my truck put back together I have an HE351ve to go over a pair of HX35's one with a 12cm and one with a 16cm housing.

From what I have been able to gather. A pair of HX-35's will flow more like an S475. An HE351 is a touch small of a match, but with an external gate it should be ok.

I went this route just for shear cheapness. I had one hx-35 with the truck, traded a case of beer for the other hx-35, and bought the he351ve off ebay for $80. With manifold, external gate, piping, silicone, everything I will be ~ $500 into this setup.

Can't go wrong in that.

I'm looking at this route to save money like you too...since I already have the2 35's and the 35/40 I figured I could get it all built for $500-600 like you, but if I will need to get hy's for primaries, I could probably build it all for $1000...around the price of a 35/3b twin como, but more tuneable and way cooler :rockwoot:

How much better would the he351 outflow a 35/40 by?

Two Hy's are headed my way on UPS right meow! Along with a bunch of random tubing and hardware...I'm gonna give this triples deal a whirl, if it works, awesome...if not I'll have a heck of a conversational piece :hehe::rockwoot:

do you think an external w/g is needed on th vgt? Th housing opens very wide which I though would be th same as a w/g.

I know when I open th vgt all th way on my truck it makes around 20 psi boost!! And doesn't have much power and smokes like crazy. And closing it down a bit, it'll make 40 psi

I know in gasser apps it is needed, So I am ASSUMING that with a decent amount of fuel you could over spin it, or in the case of triples have it do to much of the work vs the primary(s).
