Has anyone ever had their engine lock up on them?

Thats sucks.
I think that you droped a vavle and it bounhed around and with each hit to the piston the piston expanded until it locked up.

Pulled all valve covers.... all valves are still good and in shape.... from what i could see, pushrods still look good. I didnt pull the towers off but they look good.

I'm guessing a pressure plate bolt or bellhousing bolt fell out and is wedged againist the flywheel. Any white smoke out of the exhaust?

Havent crawled out underneath it yet but you have to remember.... if an adapter bolt came out....:
number 1. there is nothing for it to grab onto on the engine side of the flywheel being that it is a flat machined surface
2. Those bolt are only maybe 1/2 bolts or maybe a bit bigger. Which means even though it was ideling when i locked up... that is still tooo much weight spinning for a 1/2 bolt to lock a engine up.
3. If something got between the ring gear (outside of flywheel) and the bellhousing... it would have a hole in it because the bell housing is cast aluminum.

check Timing, ive had timing slip and heard noises like youv'e explained and also check for a blown H/G hydrolocked? could be alot of things wow 83 psi :charger:whats dont to the truck?

Just a little update......

Today i was playin with it some more (you have to remember i am in the parking lot at my apartment and not at home or at my shop since i am going to school).

Last night i pulled front cover and things look normal up there. This evening.. i put a balancer bolt in the crank, put a 1 3/16 socket on the pump nut to try to turn it over and nothing. Then.. while two buddies of mine were both trying to turn it over using the balancer bolt and the inj. pump nut while i hit the started.... it would move with every click/clank of the starter and that was it.

SO....... it is definately something in the piston area.

havent checked that yet but I have only seen that once in my life. I had to rebuild and buddy of mines truck that there was part of the thrust bearing layin in the oil pan. His was knocking but he still drove it for 250miles SO..... dont think it is it. I can check endplay but i dont think that has much to do with it.

Lance

It should have some endplay, not 0. It would most likely elimiate bottom end and clutch flywheel issues.

have you pulled the injectors and tryed to turn it over yet?

Why... im sure this would help but i know that it is not hydraulically locked. It ran way too good before and even when it sounded like SHHIITT, i still ran smooth.... it just sounded like crap. Almost like a knocking/metal to metal sound.

I drove it for more than 250 miles.. Knocking its :shake: off... Will be interesting to get it apart..

My guess is #4 piston is melted and stuck to the scored cylinder wall. I'll bet the piston pin is halfway pulled down out of the #4 piston.

Do an oil sample and see what it shows.

What would be the point of that.... it is comin apart friday night so.. why would i go through the trouble to send off an oil sample to find out what it is?

It has got to be a piston if it takes a 1/2" breaker bar on the crank, a socket with a 1/2" ratchet on the nut on the pump shaft, and the starter to turn it over a 1/4 inch at a time. With every click of the starter... it would move just a hair.

Lance

the more i think about it ..... it has to be a froze piston.

We shall see friday night. How bad yall think it is?

Thrust bearing would really have to be screwed to lock it up. I drove mine halfway to TS, and all the way back (about 500 miles) with half the thrust bearing in the pan. Had a small rattle in it, and the clutch wouldn't disengage all the way, but otherwise was fine.

That shouldn't be it!

83psi....all that pressure made the piston resemble a mushroom LOL

Good Luck

there will definately be some pics posted. Dont worry bout that.

Like i said she will move but it takes one person w/ breaker bar on crank and one on pump nut and me hitting the key and she would move a click at a time.

Definately piston related.

I'm pretty stubborn so I'm gonna stick with the spun bearings guess.:smileglasses:

Happiness is not sticking it so hard that you pull a rod apart and put one out the side. I'm betting lucky number 5....
