Are u getting a new crank or gridding that one, or are you gettin a short block, I would rebuild it myself.

Well, I was half right anyway. I guess being stubborn isn't always bad!:hehe:

since you were half right.... if you have pay pal.... pm me a paypal account email and i will paypal ya $10.

by the way.. has anyone ever seen rod bearings like this. Like i said #1 was perfect, all the rest of the rod bearings were bad. AAAALLLLLL of the mains were perfect. What the HHEEEELLLl is that about? Bad batch of bearings?

Lance

didnt go that deep in it.. All we had time for was to pull it apart in time enough to make it to a party that night (wesley can back me up).

But this week i will get a buddy of mine to strip the rest of the block down and send the block, crank and rods off for inspection.

Lance

P.S. what do yall think caused this unusual "chipping" of the rod bearings and not the #1 rod bearing and not all of the main bearings?

Lance

The mains still look good because they get oil before the rods and they survived the stress of the wot load; the rods didn't. As far as the $10 goes...don't worry about it, I think your looking at enough of a bill as is!

LOL thanks man. LOL If ya want it just let me know.

Now i am on the quest for some good flycut pistons and a bad A$$ cam. Also.... main studs, rod bolts and possibly a main girdle.

Lance

i guess they have been gettin bad for a while but with the 22* of timin... i could just never hear them.

That is the only plus with a gas engine is that you can hear every single thing that is going on.

Lance

BTW. lookin for a good piston/cam combo so dealers..... pm me.

From the looks of the tops of the pistons the fuel was hitting way outside the bowl. What injectors were in there?

22* with 435's.

Anyways.... what do yall think caused this to happen? Just lack of oil over time at WOT (4500) or just some other kinda freak accident.

I ALWAYS kept it full of oil so i dont know know what really caused this.

Lance

Spun main bearing...

I guess rods and mains.

I agree

He said there was a grinding and a clunking sound. . . . and it went for a while.

I say Mains or Rods. It may have been starved for oil during your WOT long enough to do damage. It's possible to have so much oil in suspension the sump can go dry. Although I have never heard of that on a Cummins. . .

If that's the case, you need to have the crank turned and new bearings. Be lucky it didn't pop a rod or a main cap.

Ohhh Mannnnn. . . I completely missed a page. Well there it is anyway

High EGT's are going to effect the domes and turbos more than the bottom end. That looks more like low oil pressure. Those gauges are not very accurate. . .

If those grooves are more then .030, the crank is junk.

1600* pyro has been pegged many times. And when it has been pegged... i have seen it stayed pegged for 7-10 seconds after letting off before she dropped backed down to 1600. But.. the pistons looked prettty good considering.

As said before.. i have always kept good oil in her... AND the weekend before this happened.. i had just changed the oil.

Lance

I wasn't thinking of oil being bad, I was thinking of it being kept suspended in the engine starving the pump. If the oil was a bit low, at those engine speeds it's hard to say. There usually isn't that much in the pan when you are running. Maybe 2 or 3 quarts.

You may have a oil pump going bad too. But I am sure, since you are in there, you'll put a new one in.

Now you have a project in the diesel class.
