Pilot Injection!! Can it be turned off??? Anyone know?

what you're talking about as a stand alone will probably work as a programmer but, you can't stack it or any other programmer with a Smarty.

Looking forward to hearing how it works. If I were in Vegas though... my money wouldn't be on it to be a cure all.
 
My truck has the rattle. It was most pronounced about the time the Smarty 4.3 came out . the 4.4 didn't help.
I'm now running TNT r on 7 timing 3.

IMO its to much fuel / not enough air. Incomplete combustion. (Black smoke seems to go hand in hand with the rattle)
I noticed a large reduction ,after I put the cfm intake on.
Also a looser converter made it easier to around it.
. I can make it rattle by getting into the throttle to quickly at low RPMs.
But if I'm diligent in applying the gingerly I don't here it at all.

These CRs seem to enjoy life at a higher rpm . Unlike my old 12 valve.

I think you're right on with this Doug. I'm having the same issue with my build. Are most of you running big injectors? After my rebuild, with my Flux 2's, I had the rattle but it wasnt obnoxious. I wasn't happy with how much smoke I was producing around town so we pulled the injectors to get tested. We came across some 200hp injectors so we decided to throw them in and see how I liked them. Now the rattle is obnoxious! But, like terry said, as soon as the boost comes on, there's no rattle whatsoever!

I would bet if we put on a tiny turbo and possibly smaller injectors, the rattle would be non-existent. But what fun would that be

Terry, do u get the rattle with your quick spooling ball-bearing twins?

Seems like we need a way to reduce the fuel volume until boost comes up but still keep rail pressure up to keep the fuel atomized correctly. Marco?!?! Wouldn't that help with fuel mileage, too?

I just got my truck back from lmills and have 15:1 comp with 5.1's.I bought the truck used so not sure if it had a programer on it before.I have some rattle also, but like Lloyd said it does not seem out of the normal.
 
TY, have you ( or anybody else) tried another programmer over the top of the Smarty???? Did you see the same thing???


Per our phone conversation the other day...You know who I had just talked to.....I'm gonna try that programmer / Tune and see if it makes it any better....

I'll let ya know when I get it tested!!


Not sure what you are trying but I have a program that might help. I lowers the rail pressure by 2k at idle.
Also I have done a lot of testing with programmers and found that if I load the smarty behind the bullydog ped. larry tune it runs the best. I can def. tell a difference in the way it runs when loaded after that tune vs any other. I do get a little more noise out of it too but not real noticable.

Maybe your forgeting what im talking about......It IS a programmer and I should be able to leave my MP8 in place with no problem...

It's worth a try since it won't be costing me a dime....I don't expect it to work great but it'll be interesting to see the difference in power anyway...

Not sure about the differences of loading one after the other....But, Would you mind sharring the brand / Tune of the one tha lower's RP at idle / low rpm??????

Your injectors are quite a bit larger than my 3.3's...I wonder if that would be a difference....Like I said earlier, Don did post on my other thread that he wondered if Larger injectors would help to cause........

It's not the pilot injection because of larger injectors. I has these 8x.010's in here before I redid my head and with TST timing it didn't rattle. Smarty was the same when I'd use its timing instead of TST's. Now it rattles with Smarty on timing #3 at the point right before boost is built but only with a heavy foot, if you ease into it, it won't rattle. It's either from the change of inj depth due to thicker gasket or from lower comp. The larger injectors may play a role in it but it isn't the main cause.

After hearing tsm427's truck on the dyno and knowing that it's lower compression to 15:1, I believing more and more that it my cut pistons along With the larger pilot injection event!!! Firing when there not enough heat yet and it Clatter's Bad!!

My truck sounded very close to that with stock compression and 3.3's
