Turned the barrels today!

Make shure the barrels are rotated all the way, i checked by taking one of the nuts and the u shaped piece of metal off. They are hard to turn by hand but if you get a punch and a hammer it goes easy.

yup! got them. it was EASY. idle was up a bit so i lowered it back down. idles fine still. starts fine too. i only drove it a little but will be taking off in a little and will see how it does then. im in the same boat as you though, mine will be sent off to get benched before too long.

Cool, post the outcome....every pump behaves differently.

I think this is what alot of people have been waiting for, GOOD results! too many people out there screaming NO! from what ive read. For 30 minutes of my time this was probly one of the better mods to my truck. :woohoo:

I don't think it's a smart mod unless you can flow the pump to match them, but that might just be me. Glad it's worked out so far for you.

its working fine for me. starts and idles fine. it did seem to pull a little harder from 2500 up but i only got on it a little. never went WOT. i will know tomorrow morning on the way to work once she's warmed up.

which way do you turn them? this is the first iver heard of this mod>>>

Nuclear Meltdown!!! :ft:

My egts do move alot quicker. instead of 1450 in 4th WOT its like 1600 before i can grab 5th gear. BUT instead of shifting at 2700 + or- i can shift litle over 3000, before it was not smoth up top and would start popping like it was running out of fuel, NOW it just pulls right on through. 80-85 in 4th is acheivable now! :rockwoot:

CTDYoungGun on here. I'm sure Goff would be more than willing to do it. He is located in SLC if you're not aware.

What do you think of Goff? Ive heard nothing but good things about him ? I been thinkin of just havin him do my pump.... Cause he is local

How would i get in contact with him? little short on money so i might just run the truck as is untill i can start the next line of mods goin.

what would happen if they are not following correctly

Posted on this before but no one but Jim Fulmer seemed to catch it.

If the P&B's aren't flowing equally, think about the difference in torque the "off" cylinder will apply to the crank. Now at stock "180 HP" being off some is no big deal, but when you're talking 500+ HP and twice that in torque then you are speaking of some big, unequal forces. If that doesn't matter then why are guys balancing rotating assemblies and adding bottom end girdle even on bench flowed pumps.

It can be done and gains a lot of cheap power but it will come at a price later on. Most posts against it aren't saying it can't be done, it's just not a real wise idea.

You really can't get even close to balancing the flow without having the pump benched. I did it to my pump and then took it to a shop to have it done right and saw how far it was off. If all it could hurt was the pump then no big deal, but think about the rest of the engine.

Just my $.02

A buddy that works at GDS just had his 215hp pump done by him and he seems to like it. I wouldn't hesitate going to Goff, I had a conversation with him and he seemed to know his stuff. Shipping killed me for my pump but Seth did a job that was very well worth it and I haven't been able to turn it up all the way yet. There are a lot of strong running trucks with pumps that have been handled by Goff that are local to us..

My truck dynoed 292 and 777ft lbs with a light afc. now the afc is modded for ultimate travel and ive got the barrels turned. i figure thats goot for maybe 30 horses... so i should be 320-340 ish hp,

I dont want to spend a whole lot having the pump worked on.

is the 160 pump capable of 500cc?

We did turn the barrels once on a 175 pump back in the days....
it DID pick up power, It did blow the stock charger, and it did NOT idle smooth anymore...

I believe the best is to bench it, diesel shops around here suck at it. i benched a pump with dvs and no plate, and the poor little motor bogged down and the shop guy refused to do it...

My question is, how does Bponci and garmons do it without taking the pump off the truck?

could they be putting a gauge in between the barrel and line and setting them with the truck running. the motor would act like the bench.

Roughly 450cc's on my 913 pump, with my 71mm charger made 551/1083, cleaned the smoke up to a pretty heavy haze. My pump has about 200cc's more left, so I needs me some spray!!

CDS benched pump, BTW;)
