Buda Dyno Day 2010

Kip is planning it I guess. I'm not planning it this year. I haven't heard anything at all.

Kip is planning it I guess. I'm not planning it this year. I haven't heard anything at all.

I saw somewhere where Kip clarified he would not be taking the event over, he was just trying to supply some information to whoever had the balls to do it lol This whole thing has me confused...

I guess that Buda Dyno Day is history then, thanks to all the antics last year.

Guess not. It was bad enough last year plus on kid got arrested. Then in tern his parents tried to sue Cody (Death Row Diesel) for holding the event where their kid broke the law and got arrested. Some people are just STUPID. I really hope something is figured out though. It sucks to have an event as good and as big as that one die off just because people don't know how to act in public.

The original owner got his hand slapped or something of that nature by the city or county, so he's not too concerned about it happening or not. No word form the new owners if they're in or not.
And let me clarify again Jared I'm just providing info as I receive it. I call my guy on a weekly basis if the new owner is willing to have the event or not.

JD, it wasn't just me, it was Dave and Jared as well. But they had nothing so we dodged a bullet.

And for everyone that didn't see it on CF, here is my post to all the questions about the Buda Dyno Day that I posted over there.....

Just my opinion, but I don't think Buda will happen again. THERE I said it. And here's why.....

First and foremost, it takes a team with cooperation, communication, time, and an assload of motivation.

Second it takes alot of footwork. i.e. putting face time in with ART, sponsor, and most important, each other.

So far, nobody has jumped out and said "Hey, we are in" or "This is what we've got planned" or the biggest commitment "We WILL do this."

Kip, brother, in no way am I trying to knock what you are doing, or deter you in any way. I applaud you for making efforts twards the event. But it's waaaay too much for you to do on your own.

Last year I stepped in with a crew of 28 Inmates, and my wife stepped in with 15 March of Dimes helpers. We all stepped in to cover EVERY aspect of this dyno event. And this was ON TOP of Dave and Jared's efforts which were monumental. ALL of us were in constant communication with each other refining what was going to take place, and how the event was gonna run.

And between all of us, we pulled off the biggest "Dyno" event in Texas to date. And it ran extremely well in my opinion.

Now, that being said, anything less than double that effort is going to fail, miserably. And here's why......

People don't give a shiit!!! PERIOD And no matter how you set it up and run it, people still start crying about some stupid shiit, do whatever they want to do.

We taped off almost a half mile of drive ways, and installed large marked signs of WHERE NOT TO GO, AND NOT TO PARK. Do you think it mattered??????? NO, we show up and there are campers and trucks pushed past tape lines, and by mid afternoon, business' of whom we clearly marked no parking, were getting invaded. So the neighbors will show NO love, I guarentee it.

And now ART has changed hands. The team of guys who so willingly let us in there shop, and allowed us to work hand in hand with them are gone. And I highly doubt that the new owners are willing to take responsibility for what goes on out there. And after someones Dad tried to drag us into court because their son got arrested.... you'll be hard pressed to find someone who was involved in putting the event on that gives a shiit either.

Here's the bottom line. The majority of people followed the written rules, and the unwritten rules of the event. And to those people we thank you. That's what makes a good event. But all the folks that think "The rules don't apply to me", or "I know so and so" or "It's just grass", or "I'm gonna go up the road, just a little" or "park there, they didn't care last year". You are the ones responsible for fukking it up. Thank you. You are the reason doing an event like this sucks, and nobody wants to step in.

And last but not least, for those that want to "help"....Take 300 high hp trucks, and 2000 people. Stuff it in an area that will only hold 100 trucks, and 500 people. THEN pour alcohol on top of it. Then when you are done with that, tell everyone to do burnouts, and tug of war. But remember, there are pedestrians everywhere, and children. THEN, keep track of 140 PRE REGISTERED dyno trucks, show and shine. And then, PRAY LIKE HELL NOBODY GETS KILLED, OR RUN OVER.

AND BEFORE YOU DO ALL THIS, TELL THE WORLD "I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS!!!!!!"

So now, who wants to step in and put this event on?

And just so I'm clear on my feelings on this, I want to say a few more things.

First, to all the people saying "I can help", or "We could do it here" etc, etc. Your offers DO NOT fall on def ears. I promise you that. And I personally want to thank you for your offers. It's these offers that make all the difference in the world to a team effort.

However, the offers are a moot point if you do not have a leader, or lead group. Death Row was the "Lead Group" last year, and Jared and Dave oversaw everything we did. That structure is NOT in place this year. And being Feb 3rd, it's very late in the game to even see it happen for a few reasons.

1. Sponsorships take time to secure. Rollin' Smoke Diesel, Fleet Filter, BD Diesel, Industrial Injection, were all good enough to be on board with us in the nick of time. Fleet Filter came in one week before the event, luckily because I'm a good customer. LOL I'm not saying yall don't have connections, but it's tough to put an event on of this scope, with last minute sponsors. Our main sponsor Hamilton Diesel was on board from the get go because we are lucky they are local, and good friends.

2. Most people don't understand the magnitude of the commitment. When I finally told Jared, "yes, we'll step in" It scared me to death. No pun intended. I was pulling my hair out until the event was over. I had no idea what went in to putting that event on. And I can only describe it as "Batshiit Crazy!"

3. Most people are not willing to sacrafice their "Fun" at the event for the work that it calls for. It litterally worked me and my crew in the ground.

4. Last, you gotta deal with all the asshat's that claim "Oh, this competition is rigged", or "I didn't hear you call my #, so can I dyno now?" Or people questioning your class stategy, or the run order.

Those are just a few things that most people don't see. And for those that do, forgive my rants....please.

And above all, we make mistakes, it happens. And then you gotta deal with all the people that feel they were wronged, and that's no fun, especially when you screw up.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I want this event to happen just as bad as anyone. But I just don't believe it can happen. It's just gotten too big, and we do not have a facility to hold it. And without the unique layout of A.R.T, and the culdisac, the event loses it's allure. And sadly, I will have to agree with Jared, I think this event will just have to be one of the great events we used to go to. Just my .02

RubberDuck, I extended my thanks to you after last years event, but again, I will give thanks to all that made last year possible. With an event this large, even the most organized crew would not be able to keep the event at A.R.T 100% successful. I've sat here at different times trying to brainstorm a larger/ more organizable area we could use to dyno, and each time I can't think of anywhere that would be able to solve the congestion problems. As for the alcohol and misbehavior, I could sit here in a fairy tale world and say that we are all adults, and should be able to conduct ourselves in a responsible manner, but we all know that some people just don't know how to control themselves. It's been said, and I believe I will have to agree with the fact that we are already in February and nothing has even started to be planned. Chances are very slim that ANYONE could pull together an event this large in such a short time. I do want to extend a helping hand though. In College Station we have a group, Diesels On The Brazos, that meets weekly with a decent attendance. Recently, the president of our group Phil Baxter (973604x4) passed down the "presidential duties" to myself since he will be graduating in the near future. If something was to come up and a few more helping hands were needed, I would be more than happy to help, and could probably do some convincing of some of our other members to help also. I hate to see this event not happen, but can only hope for it to be a "skipped year" rather than "the end."

Thank you sir, and well said. And I'm like you, I've tried over and over to think of a solution, but everything costs money, and can't handle that volume. My only solution was this. If I hit the lotto, I'm buying a piece of land. Bulding a shop with a dyno, and pouring a burnout pad. It's a done deal, I just gotta get the lotto to cooperate. LOL But again in all seriousness, thank you for your offer and if a crew does step in, I will surely pass the info along.

RubberDucky- Like Ive said on Cummins Forum, you did a hell of a job last year. No one can shame you for that.

I was not aware of the kid's parent trying to file suit. That sucks....and most importantly....that could be a warning sign. Buda has been a hell of a crazy event all along that we all enjoy....but its truly a gift from God that no one has been injured. Attendance numbers were unreal for the amount of space available last year. Its only a matter of time til someone will get injured in such a setting.

I completely agree with all of your statements and ideas about the event. You've got it together in your head and you know what needs to be done. No one can shame you for not wanting to take over this year. I still think you did not receive the credit you deserve for last year's event.

Like Blake (augustus89) mentioned, you have support in College Station. Find us on cummins forum....thread entitled College Station Area Roll Call. You'll get quick responses if you ask for any kind of help or support.

I guess i need to shake your hand and give you a beer, rubberduck. This is atleast the 3rd time ive backed you on the forums without ever personally knowing you :hehe:

Phil, I appreciate your support as always, and Blake's as well. And thank you so much for the props for the job we did. But I/we certainly didn't do it alone. Jared (JaMan) and David were our guiding light. Without them, it would have been a train wreck.

And to be honest, I can't tell you how much this bothers me to not do it again. Jared and David wanted us to take the event solely on our shoulders with last year as a trial run. But in light of all that happened, 95% of it was a total success. And that alone is motivation to want to do it. And the 5% of suck, is completely masked by the juice and fame that comes with pulling off the biggest dyno event in the state. In which case people ask me, why won't you do it again? And there is only two answers....

1. Chris (co-founder of DRD and my best friend) He and I keep each other in check when it comes to the responsibility of the actions that we (DRD) take in the public's eye. Well, instead of rushing off for the 5% of glory and fame, we both know that the event has far outgrown it's home. And to continue it would not only be bad judgement, it would be a very real threat to our personal lives if god forbid someone really got hurt. And that's just not a risk I'm willing to take.

And 2......At the end of it all when I looked each one of my guys in their eyes and saw sheer exhaustion, It broke my heart that I had nothing to offer them except a hand shake and a pat on the back. I know they did it for the love of the game, but work that hard should end with money in their pocket. It's just too much to ask for free. And I won't ask them to do it again.

And you don't owe me a beer, but I'd be dam glad to sit down and drink one with you and shake your hand as well. I appreciate the back up from you, and only hope I can send it back your way somewhere down the road.

Cody I dont blame you one bit about your decisions concerning this event. As you and i have talked before I was really hoping this event could happen again and I was willing to step up and do what I could to help out. It is a shame that people out there cant behave like they should. The bad thing is that its not just happening here at our stuff. Look what happened at TS last year. People in this sport need to learn how to behave or we wont be able to find anywhere to hold any kind of event. I REALLY hope that we can find a place to put this event on and that it stays successful. Too many people have worked too hard on that event to just let it die. Again to Cody and his crew and everyone else that has helped in the past y'all have ALL done a GREAT job and hopefully it happens again. I understand that it may not happen this year but as Phill pointed out earlier the is NHRDA event on April 10th and that will be a great time too. Plus there is another event coming up in San Angelo on May 1st with racing, dyno , and a show&shine. Looks to be another great event to have a blast at.
