Respectable HP....

At the same time, with my set up the way it is now, even though I can drive it largley smoke free on the street, I would like to back it down a little bit more...into the 550-600 range, mostly for the sake of milage and reliability (and hopefully lose the idle haze). Then change DV's and injectors for some dyno fun!!

This is kind of my experience with my 89. I can drive it smoke free once it is warmed up, but if I actually try and use my horsepower, it's about as convenient as a house fire. By the time the turbo spools with 27 degrees of timing traffic is gone in a cloud behind me, and even when it does, I'm still only using half of my fuel with the 62. When it starts in the morning, a little white cloud follows me everywhere I go before it warms up, which usually takes almost 10-15 minutes. I am thinking of stepping down on injector on the 89, and saving the bigguns for dyno days and such.

With my 95, I want it to be a "no thought" truck, that I can drive around without smoke at power. I know a lot of people will give me flak for running an A3k/A5K combo, but to me it seems so much more drivable and fun than a set of big twins...plus a 2.8 charger should be able to support way more than my goal.

Since I p-pumped my truck I have been WOT on the street a total of 4 times. I run out of road REAL fast!!! I have gotten it sideways at 100+MPH twice, I can EASILY break the tires loose at 80MPH with only half throttle, I can slowly roll into it and bury the speedometer without hint of smoke or I can shut down a 4 lane highway at any time.

But none of that is useful very often. I must be getting old.

What are you at? 800 at the wheels? All that sounds like fun to me!
The good thing is that it probably does ok on mileage still, right? I mean, for a big ol truck anyhow...

Well you just told me to not buy a 13mm pump so yes you are getting old :hehe::hehe:*bdh*

Respectable on the internet or the real world? Real world 500 rwhp internet 600 rwhp.

Oh it is fun as can be, just not practical. LOL I'm not normally known for my practicality either!!

It used to be 800, now I think its closer to 650 or 700 as i've slowed the fue way down.

I got 21 MPG in the mountains the day after making that 800 (well, 794.96 HP) dyno run.

any details??

See my sig???? :shake:

Ha ha, yeah we hear that all the time at the magazine too.

haha ****, I'm jaded thanks to compD
..."700hp, beh, ive seen guys on the internet hit 1,xxx"

So true! I am expecting more and more out of my ride at every dyno day, just to keep up any more.
And 500hp is beans now, 10 years ago, it was the gold standard

Apparently I am a little jaded as well, I would have never thought of 500 as being a reasonable number to shoot for, but I have to keep reminding myself that most diesel owners are probably not competitiondiesel members! ;)

Sort of...I already have ideas, I was just trying to get opinions. I made 429rwhp on one dyno and 433rwhp on another one with the HX35 and Garmon's stuff, so I definitely am shooting for more than 500, I'm just trying to do what makes sense for most people. I think I'll end up making as much power as I can with twins, the 160 pump (without taking it off) and a stock head with studs but no o-rings. Something easy and that everyone can do.

I like the idea of having a low smoke truck that has enough power to put some lengths on the "tuner" trucks. I think low 12's or high 11's ought to take care of most of them. The truck only weighs 6600 with me in it, so I have an advantage there too.

Your truck really weighs that much?? I thought 1st gens were lighter. My 2nd gen weighs 5730 with a 1/4 tank

my 2nd gen wieghed 6400 for the standard cab and my eclb wieghed right at 7 with duals 7200 ish.. none had spare tires but thats the only things missing.

I'd get your local scale checked. I have a gooseneck on a metal plate in back, I am sure that adds 100 pounds or so, but other than that it is stock.

Edit: sorry, I am talking about my 95 Dodge 4x4 I also have....the first gen in my sig is lighter, it's about 4900.

that clears that up.. bet you still have the spare tire also...

my truck with a 5th wheel hitch, no bumper, no regular hitch, and no tailgate or spare weighs 6040 with me in it and im a healthy 195lbs now ...

edit. 2/3's of a tank of fuel
