Respectable HP....

I've had way too many flats, and I sit on my tailgate :lolly:

It's crossed my mind to take some weight out of the 1st gen though....I bet that truck could be 4500-ish pretty easy. But then again, I have a Nova that is 2680, so if I want something light I can just get into that!

my 98 is 7000 even with me, full tank, toolbox full of crap, and my turnoverball

i think 600hp is respectable range i found once you get higher driveability suffers, at least for a single turbo truck. My truck was alot more fun to drive at 600hp then 700hp when you start adding alot of timing you find the power band goes down hill and you find peak goes up but you cant really use it on the street. just my 2 cents

My 98' was a tad over 600 with a 66 single and that is what I call fun hp, once you get past 700 you start tearing up too much stuff, I never ran big timing, 20 most of the time, highest was 24.

i think it would matter more about weather you are running a single or twins.
What is drivable with twins is not so friendly as a single

i thought 380/1000 was fun with my 94 but wasnt as high as i was planning. i would like 6-700 for my DD. with a manual. anything over 500 is plenty respectable for a daily driver.

with just over 500hp i won every pull in workstock out here.. so id say 500 is plenty respectable.

I made 548/1187 with a mildly tuned p-pumped 24v (sorry that it's not a 12v). A single 66, Nv4500 that hated my guts and bd 125 tips. It was a blast on the street but I decided to change it up to a 47re full manual, bigger sticks and a bigger single. Aiming towards the 700-750 range on fuel and spray her to 1000 hopefully :)

I'm gonna see what I'm making for power on Saturday with the mods listed in my signature. Hopefully it's more than the 485hp that the hp calculator spits out.... LOL

I did 475 on Jeff Garmon's dyno. Not to bad for a DD/tow rig vp truck. I tend to tow heavy at times. pulling tractors and broken trucks. I believe that the hp that I am putting down is very acceptable-for me- But I know another 100 hp would be much more fun. But what would be the trade offs in towing. I can't spending another $3000 for twins and bigger sticks and then head work and studs just for more thrill. The truck pulls great, grabs second gear and spins hard, if pushed to do so. So my vote goes for 500hp-on a tow rig/DD.

A 12 sec truck is respectable and fun to drive. 11s is better, but not as much fun to DD.

How much HP to hit 12.9 secs in the 1/4 approx? And also how much do most 2WD long bed club cabs weight in at, never seen the actual #? But for me 450-500 hp is respectable and is what I'm shooting for being I don't have billet shafts and it's DD.

From the CompD calculator, a 6200lb truck takes about 475hp to do a 12.9, the same truck takes about 600hp to do an 11.9. I was running low 12s with 5x16s, that was pretty streetable and fun to drive. Now that I've switched to 5x18s, I still drive it on the street some, but it's not nearly as much fun to drive. One thing though, nobody tailgates me now!

In las Vegas I weighed in at 6130 with tools in the cab with some odds and ends and I ran 12.79 at 103.5. I should make at least 480hp tomorrow. If not... Well I guess it's fast enough to not care LOL

Nice! It'll be interesting to see what you make on that dyno :Cheer:

my old 98 reg cab short bed never dynoed better than 525 and it was a blast to drive on the street. and the only highway roll on i didnt win was with a brand new corvette. and i did stay with him to the 140 range no problem. just couldnt pass him. i sold the truck with 290k on it and it was still on the stock head gasket. hx40/ht3b combo. im building another, i miss it.
