NX Duramax Mustang gets New ZZ manifold , just in time for Hot Rod Drag Week 2010

Nope....10.22 @ 154. Said they could not get ahold of the track. On their way to Pittsburgh now.

Left at 3, got in 10pm.

Milan was kind of bummer. Rained all night. Track was iffy at first. Spun Hard. Second pass it was threatening rain so Mike just rolled out and stomped it. 10.22@154.45. I bumped the timing up 2* and gained 5mph

Wish he could have got a good hit but the rain was coming. We needed at least a low 10 to hold our average for our 1st place position in SB/PA. That pass was good enough. Drive to Pittsburgh was very wet and slow. Had to detour around several washed out roads.

Sure hope friday/saturday goes better for you guys!

Looks good

Congrat's Mike and John on your performance. Timing is a funny thing with big injectors and spray. Everyone told me I was going the wrong way. Rock on! I would love to see a 8 in a door car. Jeff

Looking good guys, be careful up thier in Milan we have broken wheels on the road to the track the last two years!

Wished I was there, was loaded up and ready to roll, and other things precluded that. Here are better pictures of the manifold that helped to gain 120+ hp .
At 3550 lbs at the end of the run the Mustang is showing the track 1029 wheel hp on the 154.5 mph pass.
Put that power in a 2300 lbs vehicle, such as a Funny car and you could run 7.601 at 179 mph with a total street motor , put this is a legal 4500 lbs Pro Streeter , and 9.50 at 143 and drive it home to Texas after the event . wow this KPE engine make power .

I doubt it, maybe a 7.608 @178.5, but definetly not a 7.601.

Hmm.. Comp D Horsepower Calculator shows just under 890 HP to the wheels. What calculator are you using? I want to use a 1/4 mile calculator that spits out correct numbers and without seeing the formulas, I have no idea which HP calculator provides the best approximation.

Any updates from today's Drag Week? Heard the 57 had trouble stopping from 200 mph when the chutes didn't open

JB says the car snapped the trans input shaft on a 2-3 shift and had a bad bad run...it's fixed but no chance to make a second pass so their average is hosed.

Bummer.

It was great seeing you last night John. Hope you had an uneventful ride back to Hebron in the car/pack mule. Good luck guys.

Hey there's no shame in breaking with an event like Dragweek. It's the toughest of both street and race driving.

I've been there 4 years , and its the true test of a street machine. Just think that this duramax diesel powered Mustang can be daily driven, run low 9's at over 150 mph . if you put slicks on it, along with a billet input shaft 8's would be easy. 200+ mph top speed , all the while getting 40 plus MPG .
All this can be sitting in your garage for the price of a nice truck. The New car is waiting at home.*nx*

I talked to JohnBoy and Mike last night , and today , they were on the road about 10pm last night , a lot of people helped get parts , and they rebuilt the Transmission.
they are at the track waiting on the 4 pm start time . If mike lets it all hang out , a 8 will happen, but he stil has a 1100 mile drive home to the Nitrous Express headquarters in Wichita Falls Texas

..............*nx**nx* just got the word 9.216 @ 149.62 .*nx**nx*

Mike is loading up to drive the car back home.
We start work monday on the NX dragster , with this kind of KPE Dmax power and the lattest ZZ manifolds , the results will be wild . My dragster with me in it is almost 1700 lbs lighter then the NX Mustang

by the Way KPE has a few more of these engines going together for street cars some with blowers as well

Just talked to Mike, the 1/8 mile split was a 5.94 @ 121 mph. 60 foot was a 1.40 range
Mike said that the car was 1 pass away from a solid 8 second pass, but it had been a long week, and was time to drive home, and put a billet input shaft in.

I know , I begged , as did John I’m sure , with slicks , the stronger input shaft , a mid 8 should be real possibility judging from the 154.5 mph traps

Enough cant be said about all the hard work that goes into these cars, great job Mike on the driving, and John on your top shelf tuning!!:woohoo:
